DROP TEST TOTAL CHLORINE (1 drop = 10 ppm)

COMPONENTS: 1 x 4026 Dipper, plastic, large 1 x 4030 Pipet, Calibrated 0.5 & 1.0 mL, plastic w/cap 1 x 5005 Instruction 1 x 9198 Sample Tube, Graduated, 25 mL, plastic w/cap 1 x R-0636 Starch Indicator Solution, DB 1 x R-0664 Bleach Reagent #1 1 x R-0665S Bleach Reagent #2 1 x R-0700 Thiosulfate Reagent, DB.

1. Rinse and fill 25 mL sample tube (#9198) to 25 mL mark with water to be tested.
2. Using a 1.0 mL pipet (#4030), add 1 dropperful (as much as can be drawn up by means of the bulb) R-0664 Bleach Reagent #1. Swirl to mix.
3. Using a large dipper (#4026), add 1 level dipper R-0665S Bleach Reagent #2. Swirl until dissolved. Sample will turn deep yellow (brown) if chlorine is present.
4. Add R-0700 Thiosulfate Reagent dropwise, swirling and counting after each drop, until color changes from deep yellow (brown) to pale yellow. Always hold bottle in vertical position.
5. Add 10 drops R-0636 Starch Indicator Solution. Swirl to mix. Sample should turn deep blue.
6. Continue adding R-0700 Thiosulfate Reagent dropwise, swirling and counting after each drop, until color changes from deep blue to colorless. Always hold bottle in vertical position.
7. Multiply total drops of R-0700 Thiosulfate Reagent (Steps 4 & 6) by 10.

DROP TEST TOTAL CHLORINE (1 drop = 1 ppm)

Record as parts per million (ppm) total available chlorine.

1. Rinse and fill 25 mL sample tube (#9198) to 25 mL mark with water to be tested.
2. Using a 1.0 mL pipet (#4030), add 1 pipetful (as much as can be drawn up by means of the bulb) R-0664 Bleach Reagent #1. Swirl to mix.
3. Using a large dipper (#4026), add 1 level dipper R-0665S Bleach Reagent #2. Swirl until dissolved. Sample will turn deep yellow or brown if available chlorine is present.
4. Add R-0747 Sodium Thiosulfate dropwise, swirling and counting after each drop, until color changes from deep yellow or brown to pale yellow. Always hold bottle in vertical position.
5. Add 10 drops R-0636 Starch Indicator Solution. Swirl to mix. Sample should turn blue.
6. Continue adding R-0747 Sodium Thiosulfate dropwise, swirling and counting after each drop, until color changes from blue to colorless.
7. Record total drops of R-0747 Sodium Thiosulfate (Steps 4 & 6) as parts per million (ppm) available chlorine.
