COMPONENTS: 1 x 4028 Pipet, Calibrated 0.5 mL, plastic w/cap (or #4030, 0.5 & 1.0 mL) *1 x 4030 Pipet, Calibrated 0.5 & 1.0 mL, plastic w/cap 1 x 5012 Instruction 1 x 9198 Sample Tube, Graduated, 25 mL, plastic w/cap 1 x R-0627S-10 Sulfuric Acid N/10, DB 1 x R-0628-10 Sodium Hydroxide N/10, DB 1 x R-0839 Zinc Reagent #1 1 x R-0840 Zinc Reagent #2 1 x R-0841 Zinc Reagent #3, DB 1 x R-1003J Phenol Red Indicator

1. Rinse and fill 25 mL sample tube (#9198) to 25 mL mark with water to be tested.
2. Using a 0.5 mL pipet (#4028) or 1.0 mL pipet (#4030), add 2 drops R-1003J Phenol Red Indicator. If basic, sample will turn pink and if acidic, sample will turn yellow.
3. If sample turns pink: add R-0627S-10 Sulfuric Acid N/10 dropwise, swirling after each drop, until color just changes from pink to light yellow. Add 1 drop R-0628-10 Sodium Hydroxide N/10. Swirl to mix. If sample turns yellow: add R-0628-10 Sodium Hydroxide N/10 dropwise, swirling after each drop, until color changes from yellow to light pink.
4. Using a 1.0 mL pipet (#4030), add 1.0 mL R-0839 Zinc Reagent #1. Swirl to mix.
5. Add 1 dipper R-0840 Zinc Reagent #2. Swirl until dissolved. If zinc is present, sample will turn blue.
6. Add R-0841 Zinc Reagent #3 dropwise, swirling and counting after each drop, until color changes from blue to orange. Always hold bottle in vertical position.
7. Multiply drops of R-0841 Zinc Reagent #3 by 0.5. Record as parts per million (ppm) zinc.
